How do you drive from Parma to Torrechiara?
Take the SS665 Massese south from Parma towards Langhirano; Torrechiara is about 20 km from the city.
The address is Strada del Castello, 43013 Langhirano. There is parking near the upper village and a lower car park with a steep walk up; on Sundays and free days, arrive early. A car also makes it easy to add Langhirano's ham museum, a winery tasting, or another castle: see Langhirano, ham and wine.
Is there a bus from Parma to Torrechiara?
Yes: TEP line 2670 (Parma, Corcagnano, Torrechiara, Langhirano) stops at Torrechiara piazza Leoni. On working days it runs about every hour; on Sundays and holidays only four runs a day go each way.
On the current timetable, working-day buses (Monday to Saturday) leave Parma Stazione FS at 21 minutes past most hours from 7:21 to 19:21 and take about 36 minutes; on the timetable, these hourly runs appear as line 12. Buses back leave Torrechiara at 30 minutes past most hours until 19:30. A few extra runs operate on school days only. On Sundays and holidays, buses leave Parma station at 10:35, 12:05, 13:45 and 19:00, and leave Torrechiara at 10:07, 11:36, 13:07 and 18:26.
A good Sunday plan: the 10:35 arrives at 10:57, just before the castle opens at 11:00, and the 13:07 takes you back after a two-hour visit. Remember to book the castle on Sundays. Timetables change with the seasons, so check tep.pr.it before you travel.

Steep. From the lower village, the road climbs to the castle gate; one tour listing describes a walk of about 10 minutes from the village arch, 'a bit steep'.
The castle's accessibility notes describe an uneven stone path uphill from the car park and the village, and that some passages inside need help for visitors with reduced mobility, who enter free with a companion. Wear shoes with grip, and take water in summer. The reward is the village itself: stone houses, the Church of San Lorenzo, and views that open up with every turn.
Can you take a taxi to Torrechiara?
Yes, from Parma, but we could not find a published fare or a taxi rank in the village. Book your return trip in advance.
Remember the short weekday hours: the castle closes at 15:00 from Tuesday to Friday, with last entry at 14:30. If you are three or four people, compare the cost of two taxi rides with a private day that includes pickup, a guide in English and the castle ticket.
